Engagement Ring with a Collet-Set Fred Leighton Round Diamond

Modeled on the old European cut popular from 1890 to 1930, this unique stone is more brilliant than its vintage predecessors, alive with fire and charisma. Here, it’s mounted in a setting inspired by the Georgian era: an 18K yellow gold collet topped with silver and secured by elegant prongs.

This two-metal technique dates to the late 1700s, when jewelers favored white metal to enhance a diamond’s sparkle. Since platinum and white gold had yet to be introduced, silver was the only option — but it tarnished over time. To protect skin and fabric from staining, artisans backed the silver with gold, a detail preserved in this design.
